Christmas Lunch 191219Christmas Lunch Party Thursday 19th December 2019 - click here for Photos

On Thursday 19th December we held our annual Christmas Lunch party. As usual we had over 60 people for a lovely traditional Turkey Christmas lunch with all the trimmings. It was lovely to welcome some of our supporters and friends to join us.
As you can see from the photo gallery the hall was decorated beautifully, many thanks to all our wonderful volunteers who worked hard to get everything ready.
Before lunch we enjoyed coffee and Carol singing. We even had our own choir who did a sterling job in leading us in the singing. Our choir members consisted of trustees, clients and carers, they were brilliant!
After our carol singing we moved through to the large hall at the Community centre for our 2 course lunch. The photos show everyone tucking into a delicious lunch followed by Christmas pudding and coffee.
During the afternoon we were entertained by our favourite singer Nik who was accompanied for a few duets by some willing participants. Such talent we have amongst our group!
We held a raffle and as usual we had lots of lovely prizes. Our beautiful hampers are always a popular prize. Thank you to our many donors.
We are already looking forward to next year which is booked for Thursday 17th December 2020.

Penguin Day at the Resource Centre - Thursday 17th October 2019 - click here for photos

Penguin Day 171019

On Thursday 17th October Headway South Bucks held a Penguin Day. Everyone across the three days were invited to come along for a day of Penguin-themed activities.
The day started with tea/coffee and penguin biscuits kindly donated by the Coop, Bourne End. There was a choice of activities to take part in such as penguin wordsearches, wooden penguins to paint, penguins made from facecloths, penguin pairs game, penguin cupcakes and edible penguins made from olives, carrots and cream cheese!
After a morning of activities everyone enjoyed a fish and chip lunch followed by a slice of cake. Local businesses in Bourne End were very supportive and donated items for our raffle which was held after lunch.
Then the best part of the day was when “Charlie” and “Pringle” a couple of Humboldt penguins from Amazing Animals arrived to entertain us. They walked into the hall completely unphased by the 50+ people that greeted them! They waddled around the hall while everyone oo’d and agh’d and cameras snapped cute pictures!
Their keepers told us lots of interesting facts about the penguins and we were able to ask lots of questions. We were able to stroke them……they felt so soft! Some people were lucky enough to enjoy a quick cuddle with a penguin which as you can see from the photos they thoroughly enjoyed.
These events are really appreciated by our service users but could not take place without the continued support of our dedicated volunteers.
Who knows what our themed day will be next year??

We were delighted to receive Press Coverage from the Maidenhead Advertiser - see their report here

Rivertime_Boat_Trip_220819Rivertime Boat Trip - Henley Thursday 22nd August 2019 - click here for Photos

On 22nd August our Thursday clients enjoyed a trip to Henley to go on a boat trip. Marlow Rotary kindly donated the funds to cover the boat for us. We travelled by minibus to the River and Rowing Museum where we were to board the boat belonging to Rivertime Boat Trust.
When we arrived at Henley half of the group boarded the boat for their hours trip while the rest of us waved them off. We then enjoyed coffee and cake in the Museum cafe.
An hour later the groups swopped over, each group enjoying a packed lunch whilst on the boat trip.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and as you can see from the photos we had lovely weather too!
Our thanks again to Marlow Rotary for this great experience and also to Lucy our skipper and the Rivertime Boat trust for providing such a great facility.

Waterperry_Gardens_160719Waterperry Gardens 16th July 2019 - click here for photos

On Tuesday 16th July Headway South Bucks enjoyed a lovely day out to Waterperry Gardens in Oxford. It was a beautiful sunny day and very warm! On arrival we enjoyed tea and coffee followed by a lovely lunch of sandwiches, crisps and fruit. We were seated under a large canopied area which meant we could enjoy being outside but were protected from the sun. As you can see from the photos we were all seated together which was really nice as everyone was able to join in the many conversations.
After lunch we were able to wander around the beautiful gardens enjoying the many different areas there are to explore. As you can see from the photos there is an amphitheatre, a river walk, a museum, a pond, numerous flower displays and a delightful saxon church. For those who wanted retail therapy there was a farm shop, gallery, garden shop and nursery.
At 2,30pm we all met up again to enjoy an afternoon tea of scones, jam and clotted cream plus homemade cakes! Oh and of course more tea and coffee!
Suitably full we boarded the coach to return to Bourne End after what can only be described as a thoroughly enjoyable day.
A few comments from those who attended : Beautiful day, Brilliant day out, It was really splendid.

Calendar Girls 270319Woking Theatre - Calendar Girls 27th March 2019 - click here for photos

This week nearly 50 of us went to see Calendar Girls - The Musical at Woking Theatre. Setting off from Bourne End, in a coach convoy, we navigated the M25 and M3 and made our way to Surrey. We stopped at the Talbot Inn Restaurant for a delicious lunch before settling down for the matinee performance. Calendar Girls - the Musical - is based on a true story of a group of Yorkshire women who agree to create and sell a nude charity calendar. As members of the WI, they pose behind various props - iced buns, balls of wool, a wheelbarrow, a piano - All done in the best possible taste, though 'We're Going to Need Considerably Bigger Buns!’ ! It was great fun and poignant at the same time. Another well organised and enjoyable outing. Thank you Team HSB.
